Six Feet Under vs. Cannibal Corpse

If your into Death Metal, you’re most likely familiar with Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under. Cannibal Corpse is one of the most widely known Death Metal bands. Chris Barnes, the vocalist for Six Feet Under, actually started out in Cannibal Corpse, and Six Feet Under was a established as a his side project in the mid 90’s. In 95′ Barnes left Cannibal Corpse for personal reasons, and since then has committed fully to Six Feet Under. Barnes was replaced by George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher soon after his departure from Cannibal. Honestly, I love both bands, but if I had to choose between the two it would be Six Feet Under. They’re simply no mimicking Barnes incredible Death Metal growls. Barnes definitley is a little more personal in Six Feet Under too. Unlike the the gory and morbid lyrics presented in Cannibal Corpse, he usually writes about his thoughts on politics, life, and even his support for the Marijuana Law reform. Take the song “Amerika the Brutal” for example; in the song he talks about his views on the Iraq war. Songs such as “4:20″ and “Caged and Disgraced” would be examples of his support for marijuana. Cannibal Corpse presents much more brutal imagery in their lyrics. You don’t have to listen to the song to know how horrid it can be. Especially with song names such as “Hammer Smashed Face” or “Force Fed Broken Glass”. There’s no denying that Cannibal Corpse definitley assisted in making Death Metal a more popular genre. Maybe there really is something to those putrid lyrics. Thank you for taking to the time to read my blog. And share your opinions!!!

Megadeth vs. Metallica

MegadethIf you’re into either of these bands, you probably know that the singer of Megadeth, Dave Mustaine, was the lead guitarist of Metallica for their first two albums. He was soon kicked out due to his “partying” problems. I’ve never been too into Metallica; I like their first two albums, but that’s pretty much it. However, I do really like Megadeth and they are one of my favorite bands. I think Mustaine has a better voice than James Hetfield, and Megadeth hasn’t sold out or changed their style of music like Metallica has. And I just want to say to Metallica: DEATH MAGNETIC IS FUCKING PATHETIC. Do us all a favor and just stop making new music. It’s just confusing to me why Metallica is so God Damn famous, there’s not really anything special about them. The other Thrash Metal bands that were around, like Slayer and Anthrax, were so much better than Metallica, and they too never changed their classic Thrash Metal sound. I’m not trying to offend any Metallica fans out there, but Megadeth just kicks way more ass than Metallica. It does make me glad that Metallica kicked out Mustaine though, because they basically helped to start a band that is much better than them. Thank you for reading my blog and check it our every couple days if you want to read my new posts. And please share your opinions about it.

Mushroomhead vs. Slipknot

Mushroomhead's major label debut album.

Mushroomhead's major label debut album.

Mushroomhead is one of my favorite bands and I’ve been thinking about their little rivalry with Slipknot. Both of the bands wear masks and some Mushroomhead members claim that Slipknot copied their image. Plus both bands have a fairly large amount of members. Mushroomhead has 8 members and Slipknot has 9. I think Mushroomhead is a talented and original band, and seems like Slipknot road on their coat-tails a bit. All I’m saying is that I think it’s a little suspicious that right after Mushroomhead release their ‘95 debut album, Slipknot forms and decides to wear masks. For all those people who think Mushroomhead is a rip off of Slipknot, you’re wrong. Mushroomhead started long before Slipknot, and if anything, it’s definitley the other way around. I don’t really like Slipknot, mainly because it seems they totally copied Mushroomhead’s image, and now they’re a bunch of sell outs. Mushroomhead has suffered many member changes, yet they still remain to stick to their original style. A memorable mark about Mushroomhead is the fact that they have two lead vocalists, along with a couple pianists, which is not very common in Metal. Slipknot has remained with the same lineup for about ten years, which is a pretty good feat for such a band with such a large amount of members, but I feel like there music has just become too much of a cliche. To be clear I’m not saying Slipknot copied Mushroomhead’s style of music. They’re two totally different bands when it comes to music. Mushroomhead incorporates more Industrial elements (i.e. keyboards, monotoneous vocals), and Slipknot’s a NuMetal band. I know this is not a very new topic for Mushroomhead or Slipknot fans, but I just wanted to address it more personally. Please give me feedback about it.

Thank You.

I’m Anthony. I live in Marin County in California. Where I live, there aren’t many people that really like Metal. Most people don’t even know who I’m talking about when I discuss my favorite bands. This is my first blog, so I don’t really know that much about the world of blogging. The things I plan to discuss in my blog are about Metal music and maybe some other genres every once in a while. I’m basically giving my opinions about bands and would be glad to hear the opinions of others in response. This blog mainly appeals to people who share my musical tastes (obviously), but I would also like to hear the perspectives of people with different musical backgrounds. Please feel free to give me any kind of feedback. To start, a few of my favorite Metal bands are Six Feet Under, Mushroomhead, Rammstein, and Megadeth. I’m quite confused about the popularity of today’s mainstream music and wondering what exactly happened to music? And what is it that most people find so “bad” about Metal music? Hopefully as I continue my blogging, I will get many answers to these questions.

Thank you.
